Warm-Up & Stamina Exercises for Drummers
iii.  Wrists

 

CAUTION:

ALTHOUGH the exercises below have been reviewed and approved by a qualified physiotherapist, PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY OF THESE IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A CONDITION, including bad back, joints which dislocate easily or muscle, bone or tendon disease WHICH WILL EITHER BE MADE WORSE, OR WHICH MAKES YOU SUSCEPTIBLE TO INJURY.

If in doubt, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR PHYSIOTHERAPIST.

ALWAYS START GENTLY, EXERCISE CAREFULLY AND NEVER OVERDO IT.  Strains, sprains, chronic muscle or tendon damage WILL NOT DO YOU ANY FAVOURS

 

Then exercise your WRISTS.

Exercise 5

  1. Relax both wrists until your hands drop and are 'floppy'.
  2. Starting slowly, and gently, flip your wrists by moving your forearms up and down.
  3. When comfortable, speed-up slightly and maintain a steady speed.
  4. Continue to speed-up a bit at a time.

You should feel tightening of the muscles on the back of the forearm and a general relaxation in the wrist.

Exercise 6

  1. Relax both wrists until your hands drop and are 'floppy'.
  2. Starting slowly, and gently, 'flick' your wrists from side-to-side.
  3. When comfortable, speed-up slightly and maintain a steady speed.
  4. Continue to speed-up a bit at a time.

This exercises and loosens-up the wrists.
